We had a great night on Friday at a Paul Phillips Benefit evening, the place was packed and the craic was ninety. Big thank you to Daithi Cliontun for organising the whole event and getting such a great turnout on the coldest night of the winter so far
Once we got all the musicians away from the bar we had a great session, it kept getting bigger and bigger, maybe 15 musicians at one stage.
I remember jumping - where did those pipes behind me appear from :)
It was also the first time that I had seen Young Eamon Rooney play (13)
and he's very impressive and a nice young lad, we exchanged drums for a
set and he liked the egg very much.
His two young sisters joined us on
box & fiddle and weren't shy about kicking off some great sets of
tunes including a few of their own writing.
The session could have gone on longer but there was a main act, the
Rapparees. This is a talented bunch of guys singing songs and playing
tunes to get everyone in the party mood. There was lots of dancing from
the first couple of notes until I left. I ended up retiring to the
members bar where a few of us persisted to try and play tunes. It was
great fun altogether.
I had bought a few raffle tickets and was about to leave when they
called my number. I picked a bottle of Tullamore dew, thank you to the
genorous donor. Thanks to everyone who attended and to the family for
their warm welcoming of a relative stranger. The event was a great
success, thanks Daithi.
There is an annual event being discussed for around Paul's Birthday, 28 October - watch this space
